The most helpful & budget-friendly pills for healthy prostate?

Have any of you dh's taken these supplements for good, prostate health: Urinozinc Prostate Formula which we purchased from Walgreens or Saw Palmetto by Member's Mark (Sam's brand)? Wives, feel free to reply with what your dh's take.

GR, who is in his late 50's, was taking the Urinozinc PF but just recently he switched to the Saw Palmetto. We can't tell any difference in how it affects him but the Saw Palmetto is vastly more economical to use. Do any of you guys take one of these products or another similar one? And we don't need to be spending money on anything if none of these products really do any good, kwim?

I hate feeling like we're always playing "doctor" in deciding which over-the-counter pills we should be taking for better health. In August, I'll be seeing our doctor so I'll be putting the question to him at that time.

Opinions? Suggestions?

To be totally honest, we do not believe in taking any sort of OTC drug, herb, etc. unless it's something like Motrin for a headache. There are so many varied opinions on their use - that they are helpful, harmful, or do absolutely nothing and your body just excretes them. I firmly believe that exercise and proper nutrition will keep you sexually healthy more than anything else.

I totally understand your POV, cocotte. In *most* cases, we don't mess with OTC drugs/herbs either. However, with this issue we made an exception. With so many of our married years wasted, we're wanting to do everything we possibly can to assure that our todays and tomorrows are spent in good health. I will be discussing this with our doc next month as well.

And yes, exercise and healthy diet are regularly practiced in our home. We've all been exercising at the Y. In addition to that, just last week GR decided to begin riding his bike to work for exercise and to save on gas. This has him biking approximately 90-95 miles per week. He loves it!

Gemma, we are in the same boat. DH has been taking saw palmetto for about 6 months with no dramatic improvement in symptoms. He just got an RX from the Dr. yesterday. Until the symptoms became too bothersome he didn't want to take an RX that's why he took the herbal route first. We are very concerned about side effects of any treatment affecting our ML-ing...
BTW, I would love to read about your awakening. Won't you please post it on your blog.

anon, I'm not sure what symptoms you are seeing with your dh? My dh's not experiencing any prostate symptoms and his erections are pretty regular except for the occasional evenings where he's wiped out after an unusually hard day of work but he's never been a night person, in general. And his erections are fine during the night, in the mornings and during the day. He's taking the Saw Palmetto more as preventive measures.

The only symptoms he's had so far are the feeling of an urgent need to urinate, but usually with very little output and an increas in the frequency of having to get up at night to go...

I see. No, we're not experiencing symptoms.

Well, try this again! I started to take Prostate Formula (available at Wal-Mart and similar products at other places like GNC) and within a week I noticed a definate difference in volume (and therefore orgasmic pleasure) as well as erection ability. Unfortunately I turned out to be allergic to it (broke out in a rash on my forehead of all places). I only took half of what was reccomended - 1 pill a day in the morning.

What has improved my prostate health more than anything is prostate massage. A couple times a month I use a prostate vibe to massage it. Aside from the pleasure I get, which is significant, it also has decreased the size of it. Two years ago when I had my annual physical, the doc didn't like the feel of something so sent me to get a prostate ultrasound - NOT FUN (they didn't find anything wrong). Last year during my physical, doc didn't find anything he didn't like. This year, he said that it felt great - small and firm. He said "in the world of all things male, where bigger is better, in this case smaller is better and you're in great shape!" Soooo, I'll keep massaging!

I've heard that prostate massages are healthy for the bod, mwm. GR and I will keep that in mind, too. Maybe you could post a link here to show what you use for a prostate vibe? Thanks.

I have one similar to this:

http://www.goodvibes.com/display_product.jhtml?id=1-2-AH-0611&lid=grid

This style is usually listed as a G-Spot or clit vibe but the angled head is just right for finding the prostate. And once you find it - you know it!

In fact, the other week I was using one while we were playing (cause DW cannot tell where it needs to be so I operate it while we do other things) and DW decided to start stroking me. Lubed up with coconut oil, she started stroking me and I quickly got very hard (which is not usual when I use a vibe). I had been massaging for about ten minutes. Well, let me tell you, between the vibe and her stroking, I had one of the most intense orgasms I have ever had, and the volume was tremendous because of the prostate massage. I HIGHLY reccomend this!

Wow, mwm!!! I have to admit that I am woefully ignorant about prostate massages. Thanks so much for sharing your experiences with this sort of vibe.

I don't have any symptoms yet, but I want to prevent, too. I took one bottle of Prostate Formula, but then switched to Saw Palmetto. I also take L-Arginine and a zinc pill. I'm pushing 40 so I don't want any issues and my love life has been great the last few months and I hate to lose out on that because of prostate issues causing ED. By the way, love the blog, Gemma. I catch it every once in a while.

LMG, I'm curious-- What made you do the switch from Prostate Formula to Saw Palmetto?

Happy that you're enjoying the blog. Thanks for being here.

I think it was because I was looking the prices and doing an ingredient comparison. I heard that Saw Palmetto was the main thing I needed anyway (I have a good fried who's a pharmacist and we talked about prostate pills). I figured I would save a little money and just take the Saw Palmetto pills. I'm taking them as a preventative as well, so I couldn't tell you if there has been an improvement in my prostate size or function. I think I paid between $10-$13 for PF at Wal-Mart and less than $8 for SP. I can't remember the prices, but I remember thinking that it was a big enough difference to change. And it might have been quantity/price, too.

Yep, the price and ingredients was our reason to switch. I was just wondering if you might have had different reasons. The Saw Palmetto we got at Sam's was pretty economical. Thanks.
